89
This document describes libxml, the XML C library developped for the Gnome project. XML is a standard for building tag-based
90structured documents/data.

91
Here are some key points about libxml:

92

93
Libxml exports Push (progressive) and Pull (blocking) type parser
94 interfaces for both XML and HTML.

95
Libxml can do DTD validation at parse time, using a parsed document
96 instance, or with an arbitrary DTD.

97
Libxml includes complete XPath, XPointer and XInclude implementations.

98
It is written in plain C, making as few assumptions as possible, and
99 sticking closely to ANSI C/POSIX for easy embedding. Works on
100 Linux/Unix/Windows, ported to a number of other platforms.

101
Basic support for HTTP and FTP client allowing aplications to fetch
102 remote resources

103
The design is modular, most of the extensions can be compiled out.

104
The internal document repesentation is as close as possible to the DOM interfaces.

105
Libxml also has a SAX
106 like interface; the interface is designed to be compatible with Expat.

107
This library is released under the MIT
108 Licence see the Copyright file in the distribution for the precise
109 wording.

110

111
Warning: unless you are forced to because your application links with a
112Gnome-1.X library requiring it, Do Not Use libxml1, use
113libxml2
