However, the (unix) 35shared library version is still 1.5 (i.e. libGL.so.1.5.xxxxxx). 36Bumping the shared library version to 2.x would cause linking problems 37with existing OpenGL applications. Since OpenGL 2.x is backward 38compatible with OpenGL 1.x the shared library version number doesn't 39have to be incremented (which would indicate an incompatible ABI). 40
41
42Other OpenGL vendors name their OpenGL 2.x libraries libGL.so.1.0.xxxxx 43for the same reason. 44
45 46 47 48
New features
49
50
OpenGL 2.0 and 2.1 API support. 51
Entirely new Shading Language code generator. See the 52Shading Language page for more information. 53
Much faster software execution of vertex, fragment shaders. 54
New vertex buffer object (vbo) infrastructure 55
Updated glext.h file (version 39) 56
Updated glxext.h file (version 19) 57
GL_MAX_DRAWBUFFERS is now 4 (software rendering) so 58 "multiple render targets" are really supported. 59
60 61
Bug fixes
62
63
Fog was errantly applied when a fragment shader was enabled (bug 9346) 64
glPush/PopClientAttrib didn't handle VBO bindings correctly (bug 9445) 65
With 32-bit Z buffer, the fragment Z of lines and points was sometimes wrong. 66
GL_POST_CONVOLUTION_ALPHA_BIAS/SCALE was broken. 67
1D convolution state could effect 2D image transfers 68
Overlapping glCopyPixels with negative Y zoom didn't work (bug 10521) 69
Fixed a number of framebuffer/renderbuffer reference counting bugs 70
Fixed a few bugs in software-emulated alpha planes 71
Assorted minor bug fixes in glCopy/DrawPixels, glPixelZoom, etc. 72
Assorted DRI driver bug fixes. 73
Fixed a number of bugs that prevented "depth-peeling" rendering from working. 74
75 76 77
Internal code changes
78
79
Old array_cache module replaced by new vbo module. All geometry 80rendering is now cast in the form of vertex buffer objects. 81
Massive changes to the Shading Language compiler and related state. 82
Vertex/fragment shaders are compiled into GPU instructions and 83programs very similar to GL_ARB_vertex/fragment_program. 84
Vertex and fragment programs are executed with the same code now. 85
The SSE-optimized vertex program path has been removed since it didn't 86support more than 12 temp registers, didn't support branching/looping, etc. 87
88 89 90
To Do (someday) items
91
92
Switch to freeglut 93
Fix linux-glide target/driver. 94
Improved lambda and derivative calculation for frag progs. 95
96 97 98
Driver Status
99 100
101Driver Status 102---------------------- ---------------------- 103DRI drivers varies with the driver 104XMesa/GLX (on Xlib) implements OpenGL 2.1 105OSMesa (off-screen) implements OpenGL 2.1 106Windows/Win32 implements OpenGL 2.1 107Glide (3dfx Voodoo1/2) implements OpenGL 1.3 108SVGA unsupported 109Wind River UGL unsupported 110DJGPP unsupported 111GGI unsupported 112BeOS unsupported 113Allegro unsupported 114D3D unsupported 115
116 117
118
119
