Improvements over r195317: - Set/restore EnableFastISel flag instead of just running FastISel within SelectAllBasicBlocks; the flag is checked in various places, and FastISel won't run properly if those places don't do the right thing. - Test looks for normal ISel versus FastISel behavior, and not something more subtle that doesn't work everywhere. Replace the "NoFramePointerElimNonLeaf" target option with a function attribute. There's no need to specify a flag to omit frame pointer elimination on non-leaf nodes...(Honestly, I can't parse that option out.) Move all of the header files which are involved in modelling the LLVM IR into their new header subdirectory: include/llvm/IR. This matches the directory structure of lib, and begins to correct a long standing point of file layout clutter in LLVM. There are still more header files to move here, but I wanted to handle them in separate commits to make tracking what files make sense at each layer easier. The only really questionable files here are the target intrinsic tablegen files. But that's a battle I'd rather not fight today. I've updated both CMake and Makefile build systems (I think, and my tests think, but I may have missed something). I've also re-sorted the includes throughout the project. I'll be committing updates to Clang, DragonEgg, and Polly momentarily. git-svn-id: https://llvm.org/svn/llvm-project/llvm/trunk@171366 91177308-0d34-0410-b5e6-96231b3b80d8

Use the new script to sort the includes of every file under lib. Sooooo many of these had incorrect or strange main module includes. I have manually inspected all of these, and fixed the main module include to be the nearest plausible thing I could find. If you own or care about any of these source files, I encourage you to take some time and check that these edits were sensible. I can't have broken anything (I strictly added headers, and reordered them, never removed), but they may not be the headers you'd really like to identify as containing the API being implemented. Many forward declarations and missing includes were added to a header files to allow them to parse cleanly when included first. The main module rule does in fact have its merits. =] git-svn-id: https://llvm.org/svn/llvm-project/llvm/trunk@169131 91177308-0d34-0410-b5e6-96231b3b80d8

Extend the IL for selecting TLS models (PR9788) This allows the user/front-end to specify a model that is better than what LLVM would choose by default. For example, a variable might be declared as @x = thread_local(initialexec) global i32 42 if it will not be used in a shared library that is dlopen'ed. If the specified model isn't supported by the target, or if LLVM can make a better choice, a different model may be used. git-svn-id: https://llvm.org/svn/llvm-project/llvm/trunk@159077 91177308-0d34-0410-b5e6-96231b3b80d8

Teach LLVM about a PIE option which, when enabled on top of PIC, makes optimizations which are valid for position independent code being linked into a single executable, but not for such code being linked into a shared library. I discussed the design of this with Eric Christopher, and the decision was to support an optional bit rather than a completely separate relocation model. Fundamentally, this is still PIC relocation, its just that certain optimizations are only valid under a PIC relocation model when the resulting code won't be in a shared library. The simplest path to here is to expose a single bit option in the TargetOptions. If folks have different/better designs, I'm all ears. =] I've included the first optimization based upon this: changing TLS models to the *Exec models when PIE is enabled. This is the LLVM component of PR12380 and is all of the hard work. git-svn-id: https://llvm.org/svn/llvm-project/llvm/trunk@154294 91177308-0d34-0410-b5e6-96231b3b80d8

RegAlloc superpass: includes phi elimination, coalescing, and scheduling. Creates a configurable regalloc pipeline. Ensure specific llc options do what they say and nothing more: -reglloc=... has no effect other than selecting the allocator pass itself. This patch introduces a new umbrella flag, "-optimize-regalloc", to enable/disable the optimizing regalloc "superpass". This allows for example testing coalscing and scheduling under -O0 or vice-versa. When a CodeGen pass requires the MachineFunction to have a particular property, we need to explicitly define that property so it can be directly queried rather than naming a specific Pass. For example, to check for SSA, use MRI->isSSA, not addRequired<PHIElimination>. CodeGen transformation passes are never "required" as an analysis ProcessImplicitDefs does not require LiveVariables. We have a plan to massively simplify some of the early passes within the regalloc superpass. git-svn-id: https://llvm.org/svn/llvm-project/llvm/trunk@150226 91177308-0d34-0410-b5e6-96231b3b80d8

Move global variables in TargetMachine into new TargetOptions class. As an API change, now you need a TargetOptions object to create a TargetMachine. Clang patch to follow. Change some methods in MCDwarf.cpp to be able to handle an arbitrary MCStreamer instead of just MCObjectStreamer. Address changes cannot be as efficient as we have to use DW_LNE_set_addres, but at least most of the logic is shared. This will be used so that, with CodeGen still using EmitDwarfLocDirective, llvm-gcc is able to produce debug_line sections without needing an assembler that supports .loc. git-svn-id: https://llvm.org/svn/llvm-project/llvm/trunk@119777 91177308-0d34-0410-b5e6-96231b3b80d8

Remove the '-disable-scheduling' flag and replace it with the 'source' option of the '-pre-RA-sched' flag. It actually makes more sense to do it this way. Also, keep track of the SDNode ordering by default. Eventually, we would like to make this ordering a way to break a "tie" in the scheduler. However, doing that now breaks the "CodeGen/X86/abi-isel.ll" test for 32-bit Linux. git-svn-id: https://llvm.org/svn/llvm-project/llvm/trunk@94308 91177308-0d34-0410-b5e6-96231b3b80d8

Implement the JIT side of the GDB JIT debugging interface. To enable this feature, either build the JIT in debug mode to enable it by default or pass -jit-emit-debug to lli. Right now, the only debug information that this communicates to GDB is call frame information, since it's already being generated to support exceptions in the JIT. Eventually, when DWARF generation isn't tied so tightly to AsmPrinter, it will be easy to push that information to GDB through this interface. Here's a step-by-step breakdown of how the feature works: - The JIT generates the machine code and DWARF call frame info (.eh_frame/.debug_frame) for a function into memory. - The JIT copies that info into an in-memory ELF file with a symbol for the function. - The JIT creates a code entry pointing to the ELF buffer and adds it to a linked list hanging off of a global descriptor at a special symbol that GDB knows about. - The JIT calls a function marked noinline that GDB knows about and has put an internal breakpoint in. - GDB catches the breakpoint and reads the global descriptor to look for new code. - When sees there is new code, it reads the ELF from the inferior's memory and adds it to itself as an object file. - The JIT continues, and the next time we stop the program, we are able to produce a proper backtrace. Consider running the following program through the JIT: #include <stdio.h> void baz(short z) { long w = z + 1; printf("%d, %x\n", w, *((int*)NULL)); // SEGFAULT here } void bar(short y) { int z = y + 1; baz(z); } void foo(char x) { short y = x + 1; bar(y); } int main(int argc, char** argv) { char x = 1; foo(x); } Here is a backtrace before this patch: Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault. SjLj based exception handling unwinding support. This patch is nasty, brutish and short. Well, it's kinda short. Definitely nasty and brutish. The front-end generates the register/unregister calls into the SjLj runtime, call-site indices and landing pad dispatch. The back end fills in the LSDA with the call-site information provided by the front end. Catch blocks are not yet implemented. Built on Darwin and verified no llvm-core "make check" regressions. git-svn-id: https://llvm.org/svn/llvm-project/llvm/trunk@78625 91177308-0d34-0410-b5e6-96231b3b80d8

Refactor TargetMachine, pushing handling of TargetData into the target-specific subclasses. This has one caller-visible change: getTargetData() now returns a pointer instead of a reference. First round of support for doing scalar FP using the SSE2 ISA extension and XMM registers. There are many known deficiencies and fixmes, which will be addressed ASAP. The major benefit of this work is that it will allow the LLVM register allocator to allocate FP registers across basic blocks. The x86 backend will still default to x87 style FP. To enable this work, you must pass -enable-sse-scalar-fp and either -sse2 or -sse3 to llc. An example before and after would be for: double foo(double *P) { double Sum = 0; int i; for (i = 0; i < 1000; ++i) Sum += P[i]; return Sum; } The inner loop looks like the following: x87: .LBB_foo_1: # no_exit fldl (%esp) faddl (%eax,%ecx,8) fstpl (%esp) incl %ecx cmpl $1000, %ecx #FP_REG_KILL jne .LBB_foo_1 # no_exit SSE2: addsd (%eax,%ecx,8), %xmm0 incl %ecx cmpl $1000, %ecx #FP_REG_KILL jne .LBB_foo_1 # no_exit git-svn-id: https://llvm.org/svn/llvm-project/llvm/trunk@22340 91177308-0d34-0410-b5e6-96231b3b80d8

TargetCacheInfo has been removed; its only uses were to propagate a constant (16) into certain areas of the SPARC V9 back-end. I'm fairly sure the US IIIi's dcache has 32-byte lines, so I'm not sure where the 16 came from. However, in the interest of not breaking things any more than they already are, I'm going to leave the constant alone. git-svn-id: https://llvm.org/svn/llvm-project/llvm/trunk@12043 91177308-0d34-0410-b5e6-96231b3b80d8
