Remove unnecessary sync calls from setup phase again. This test runs 'sync' during the setup phase of the build. This causes the build to pause and wait for all pending writes to complete. This step delays the build unnecessarily. In my tests I saw this step causing the build to hang for several minutes because other processes were writing to the disk. Remove unnecessary sync calls from setup phase. These three tests run 'sync' during the setup phase of the build. This causes the build to pause and wait for all pending writes to complete. This step delays the build unnecessarily. In my tests I saw this step causing the build to hang for several minutes because other processes were writing to the disk. This diff incorporates many changes. First we add a patch to the C code from whcih the client and server executables are built. This adds some time in order to assure that the multiple clients (if their are more than one) are synchronized. Also we move some code from initialize() to setup() where it better belongs. run_one() is now documented. Also we add a parameter for bi-directional tests as well as the wait time on the client threads to help with synchronicity. Also we now allow setting the processor affinity of the client and server executables. Also mpstat is run while the client is running. From this data additional keyvals are generated (including Efficiency). Travis Miller git-svn-id: http://test.kernel.org/svn/autotest/trunk@3278 592f7852-d20e-0410-864c-8624ca9c26a4

Convert remainder of tests to use logging As cerberus, lsb_dtk and dma_memtest had more work to do, they went into separate patches. This patch now finishes the work of converting tests to use logging statements. What was done: * In one test (aiostress), the values of self.srcdir, self.bindir and self.tmpdir were being print. As this seems to be a debug statement from early code that doesn't seem necessary anymore, it was removed. * In some tests, the command being executed was being printed out, followed by a utils.system call. As this sort of command print is a debugging statement, and as utils.system already logs the command being executed, in such cases, the command string print was simply removed * The form print >> file_object, "foo" was replaced by the equivalent file_object.write(foo) as it is more clear. * Conversion of print statements to logging statements. netperf2 relies on a structure defined on the sched.h include, that had its definition updated on newer systems. After some research, I found the fix on netperf svn trunk, so a patch to fix the build was created and applied before we run ./configure. Risk: Low (Only the relevant change from svn trunk upstream was backported, it shouldn't bring regressions on older systems). Visibility: Users of the netperf2 test using it on distros such as Fedora 10 and OpenSUSE 11, Ubuntu Hardy will be able to use it. Warning: This is a p0 patch that is supposed to be applied under client/tests/netperf2. Sorry, had to make this in a hurry. Scaling perf numbers based on actual time taken by test. This scaling is needed because for tests with large number of streams, it takes a significant amount of time to start up all the streams. Risk: Required Visibility: Minimal Second pass on clean up. I tested all test to make sure they at least run correctly, adding a few control file stubs here and there. Most of the fixes are import os fixes along with a few incorrect references Signed-off-by: Scott Zawalski <scottz@google.com> git-svn-id: http://test.kernel.org/svn/autotest/trunk@1607 592f7852-d20e-0410-864c-8624ca9c26a4

1. Removed the system() and system_output() implementations from client/bin/autotest_utils.py so that the ones in common_lib/utils.py are used throughout. 2. Add an optional parameter to system_output() in client/common_lib/utils.py to retain stdout and not throw it away. 3. Renamed ignorestatus to ignore_status to make it consistent with the rest of the code. 4. Modified the tests to use the renamed ignore_status option 5. Modifed the CmdError() implementation in client/common_lib/error.py and made sure all the places on the server side, that expect a AutoservRunError exception are changed to expect and handle a CmdError exception instead. Fix netserver start invocation not to block when invoked from ssh From: Benjamin Poirier <poirier@google.com> Signed-off-by: Martin J. Bligh <mbligh@google.com> Netserver is the server component of netperf. When netserver is started from the command line, it is supposed to background itself and the command returns right after. However, when attempting to do this via ssh, netserver doesn't behave the same way: it starts but doesn't detach properly and ssh sits there waiting for it to terminate. Roman Kagan <rkagan@sw.ru> I didn't look at the netserver itself, but the behavior you describe usually indicates that it daemonizes without closing std{in,out, err}, and ssh doesn't exit until they are closed. git-svn-id: http://test.kernel.org/svn/autotest/trunk@621 592f7852-d20e-0410-864c-8624ca9c26a4

This patch increases the timeout for the start barrier. It used to be 30 seconds. When executing the netperf test on two machines of different specs, the most powerful one would have the time to finish compiling and timeout on the barrier while the other was still compiling. 600 seconds should leave ample tolerance at the cost of a longer wait if there is indeed something that goes wrong.
