s390/compat: add sync_file_range and fallocate compat syscalls The compat syscall wrappers for sync_file_range and fallocate merged 32 bit parameters into 64 bit parameters. Therefore they did more than just the usual zero and/or sign extension of system call parameters. So convert these two wrappers to full s390 specific compat sytem calls. s390/compat: change parameter types from unsigned long to compat_ulong_t Change parameter types of s390's compat ipc syscall from unsigned long to compat_ulong_t to enforce zero extension of these parameters. This is not really a bug, since s390_ipc compat syscall is only a wrapper to the generic compat_sys_ipc() syscall, which performs correct zero and sign extension. s390/compat,uid16: use current_cred() 86a264ab "CRED: Wrap current->cred and a few other accessors" converted all uses of current->cred into current_cred() but left s390 alone. So let's convert s390 finally as well, only five years later. This way we also get rid of a sparse warning which complains about a possible invalid rcu dereference which however is a false positive. s390/compat: fix mmap compat system calls The native 31 bit and the compat behaviour for the mmap system calls differ: In native 31 bit mode the passed in address for the mmap system call will be unmodified passed to sys_mmap_pgoff(). In compat mode however the passed in address will be modified with compat_ptr() which masks out the most significant bit. The result is that in native 31 bit mode each mmap request (with MAP_FIXED) will fail where the most significat bit is set, while in compat mode it may succeed. This odd behaviour was introduced with d3815898 "[S390] mmap: add missing compat_ptr conversion to both mmap compat syscalls". To restore a consistent behaviour accross native and compat mode this patch functionally reverts the above mentioned commit. s390/comments: unify copyright messages and remove file names Remove the file name from the comment at top of many files. In most cases the file name was wrong anyway, so it's rather pointless. Also unify the IBM copyright statement. We did have a lot of sightly different statements and wanted to change them one after another whenever a file gets touched. However that never happened. include cleanup: Update gfp.h and slab.h includes to prepare for breaking implicit slab.h inclusion from percpu.h percpu.h is included by sched.h and module.h and thus ends up being included when building most .c files. percpu.h includes slab.h which in turn includes gfp.h making everything defined by the two files universally available and complicating inclusion dependencies. percpu.h -> slab.h dependency is about to be removed. Prepare for this change by updating users of gfp and slab facilities include those headers directly instead of assuming availability. As this conversion needs to touch large number of source files, the following script is used as the basis of conversion. http://userweb.kernel.org/~tj/misc/slabh-sweep.py The script does the followings. * Scan files for gfp and slab usages and update includes such that only the necessary includes are there. ie. if only gfp is used, gfp.h, if slab is used, slab.h. * When the script inserts a new include, it looks at the include blocks and try to put the new include such that its order conforms to its surrounding. It's put in the include block which contains core kernel includes, in the same order that the rest are ordered - alphabetical, Christmas tree, rev-Xmas-tree or at the end if there doesn't seem to be any matching order. * If the script can't find a place to put a new include (mostly because the file doesn't have fitting include block), it prints out an error message indicating which .h file needs to be added to the file. The conversion was done in the following steps. 1. The initial automatic conversion of all .c files updated slightly over 4000 files, deleting around 700 includes and adding ~480 gfp.h and ~3000 slab.h inclusions. The script emitted errors for ~400 files. 2. Each error was manually checked. Some didn't need the inclusion, some needed manual addition while adding it to implementation .h or embedding .c file was more appropriate for others. This step added inclusions to around 150 files. 3. The script was run again and the output was compared to the edits from #2 to make sure no file was left behind. 4. Several build tests were done and a couple of problems were fixed. e.g. lib/decompress_*.c used malloc/free() wrappers around slab APIs requiring slab.h to be added manually. 5. The script was run on all .h files but without automatically editing them as sprinkling gfp.h and slab.h inclusions around .h files could easily lead to inclusion dependency hell. Most gfp.h inclusion directives were ignored as stuff from gfp.h was usually wildly available and often used in preprocessor macros. Each slab.h inclusion directive was examined and added manually as necessary. 6. percpu.h was updated not to include slab.h. 7. Build test were done on the following configurations and failures were fixed. CONFIG_GCOV_KERNEL was turned off for all tests (as my distributed build env didn't work with gcov compiles) and a few more options had to be turned off depending on archs to make things build (like ipr on powerpc/64 which failed due to missing writeq). * x86 and x86_64 UP and SMP allmodconfig and a custom test config. * powerpc and powerpc64 SMP allmodconfig * sparc and sparc64 SMP allmodconfig * ia64 SMP allmodconfig * s390 SMP allmodconfig * alpha SMP allmodconfig * um on x86_64 SMP allmodconfig 8. percpu.h modifications were reverted so that it could be applied as a separate patch and serve as bisection point. Given the fact that I had only a couple of failures from tests on step 6, I'm fairly confident about the coverage of this conversion patch. If there is a breakage, it's likely to be something in one of the arch headers which should be easily discoverable easily on most builds of the specific arch. Kill ancient crap in s390 compat mmap We've had TASK_SIZE set to 1<<31 for 31bit tasks since May 2004. Before that old32_mmap() had to deal with do_mmap_pgoff() giving it an address out of range. It had tried to do that by checking return value and doing do_munmap() (at wrong address, BTW). IOW, that code had been dead for 5.5 years (and bogus - for 8). Kill. compat: move cp_compat_stat to common code struct stat / compat_stat is the same on all architectures, so cp_compat_stat should be, too. Turns out it is, except that various architectures have slightly and some high2lowuid/high2lowgid or the direct assignment instead of the SET_UID/SET_GID that expands to the correct one anyway. [PATCH] Common compat_sys_sysinfo I noticed that almost all architectures implemented exactly the same sys32_sysinfo... except parisc, where a bug was to be found in handling of the uptime. So let's remove a whole whack of code for fun and profit. Cribbed compat_sys_sysinfo from x86_64's implementation, since I figured it would be the best tested. This patch incorporates Arnd's suggestion of not using set_fs/get_fs, but instead extracting out the common code from sys_sysinfo. [S390] noexec protection This provides a noexec protection on s390 hardware. Our hardware does not have any bits left in the pte for a hw noexec bit, so this is a different approach using shadow page tables and a special addressing mode that allows separate address spaces for code and data. As a special feature of our "secondary-space" addressing mode, separate page tables can be specified for the translation of data addresses (storage operands) and instruction addresses. The shadow page table is used for the instruction addresses and the standard page table for the data addresses. The shadow page table is linked to the standard page table by a pointer in page->lru.next of the struct page corresponding to the page that contains the standard page table (since page->private is not really private with the pte_lock and the page table pages are not in the LRU list). Depending on the software bits of a pte, it is either inserted into both page tables or just into the standard (data) page table. Pages of a vma that does not have the VM_EXEC bit set get mapped only in the data address space. Any try to execute code on such a page will cause a page translation exception. The standard reaction to this is a SIGSEGV with two exceptions: the two system call opcodes 0x0a77 (sys_sigreturn) and 0x0aad (sys_rt_sigreturn) are allowed. They are stored by the kernel to the signal stack frame. Unfortunately, the signal return mechanism cannot be modified to use an SA_RESTORER because the exception unwinding code depends on the system call opcode stored behind the signal stack frame. This feature requires that user space is executed in secondary-space mode and the kernel in home-space mode, which means that the addressing modes need to be switched and that the noexec protection only works for user space. After switching the addressing modes, we cannot use the mvcp/mvcs instructions anymore to copy between kernel and user space. A new mvcos instruction has been added to the z9 EC/BC hardware which allows to copy between arbitrary address spaces, but on older hardware the page tables need to be walked manually. [PATCH] VFS: Make filldir_t and struct kstat deal in 64-bit inode numbers These patches make the kernel pass 64-bit inode numbers internally when communicating to userspace, even on a 32-bit system. They are required because some filesystems have intrinsic 64-bit inode numbers: NFS3+ and XFS for example. The 64-bit inode numbers are then propagated to userspace automatically where the arch supports it. Problems have been seen with userspace (eg: ld.so) using the 64-bit inode number returned by stat64() or getdents64() to differentiate files, and failing because the 64-bit inode number space was compressed to 32-bits, and so overlaps occur. This patch: Make filldir_t take a 64-bit inode number and struct kstat carry a 64-bit inode number so that 64-bit inode numbers can be passed back to userspace. The stat functions then returns the full 64-bit inode number where available and where possible. If it is not possible to represent the inode number supplied by the filesystem in the field provided by userspace, then error EOVERFLOW will be issued. Similarly, the getdents/readdir functions now pass the full 64-bit inode number to userspace where possible, returning EOVERFLOW instead when a directory entry is encountered that can't be properly represented. Note that this means that some inodes will not be stat'able on a 32-bit system with old libraries where they were before - but it does mean that there will be no ambiguity over what a 32-bit inode number refers to. Note similarly that directory scans may be cut short with an error on a 32-bit system with old libraries where the scan would work before for the same reasons. It is judged unlikely that this situation will occur because modern glibc uses 64-bit capable versions of stat and getdents class functions exclusively, and that older systems are unlikely to encounter unrepresentable inode numbers anyway. [S390] Inline assembly cleanup. Major cleanup of all s390 inline assemblies. They now have a common coding style. Quite a few have been shortened, mainly by using register asm variables. Use of the EX_TABLE macro helps as well. The atomic ops, bit ops and locking inlines new use the Q-constraint if a newer gcc is used. That results in slightly better code. [PATCH] s390: fadvise hint values. Add special case for the POSIX_FADV_DONTNEED and POSIX_FADV_NOREUSE hint values for s390-64. The user space values in the s390-64 glibc headers for these two defines have always been 6 and 7 instead of 4 and 5. All 64 bit applications therefore use the "wrong" values. To get these applications working without recompiling the kernel needs to accept the "wrong" values. Since the values for s390-31 are 4 and 5 the compat wrapper for fadvise64 and fadvise64_64 need to rewrite the values for 31 bit system calls. Let it rip!
