module_param: make bool parameters really bool (drivers & misc) module_param(bool) used to counter-intuitively take an int. In fddd5201 (mid-2009) we allowed bool or int/unsigned int using a messy trick. It's time to remove the int/unsigned int option. usb: gadget: rename usb_gadget_driver::speed to max_speed This commit renames the “speed” field of the usb_gadget_driver structure to “max_speed”. This is so that to make it more apparent that the field represents the maximum speed gadget driver can support. This also make the field look more like fields with the same name in usb_gadget and usb_composite_driver structures. All of those represent the *maximal* speed given entity supports. After this commit, there are the following fields in various structures: * usb_gadget::speed - the current connection speed, * usb_gadget::max_speed - maximal speed UDC supports, * usb_gadget_driver::max_speed - maximal speed gadget driver supports, and * usb_composite_driver::max_speed - maximal speed composite gadget supports. usb: gadget: convert all users to the new udc infrastructure peripheral drivers are using usb_add_gadget()/usb_del_gadget() to register/unregister to the udc-core. The udc-core will take the first available gadget driver and attach function driver which is calling usb_gadget_register_driver(). This is the same behaviour we have right now. Only dummy_hcd was tested, the others were compiled tested. sanitize <linux/prefetch.h> usage Commit e66eed651fd1 ("list: remove prefetching from regular list iterators") removed the include of prefetch.h from list.h, which uncovered several cases that had apparently relied on that rather obscure header file dependency. So this fixes things up a bit, using grep -L linux/prefetch.h $(git grep -l '[^a-z_]prefetchw*(' -- '*.[ch]') grep -L 'prefetchw*(' $(git grep -l 'linux/prefetch.h' -- '*.[ch]') to guide us in finding files that either need <linux/prefetch.h> inclusion, or have it despite not needing it. There are more of them around (mostly network drivers), but this gets many core ones. To make things clearer rename the function to resemble platform_driver_probe. OMAP: control: move plat-omap/control.h to mach-omap2/control.h Only OMAP2+ platforms have the System Control Module (SCM) IP block. In the past, we've kept the SCM header file in plat-omap. This has led to abuse - device drivers including it; includes being added that create implicit dependencies on OMAP2+ builds; etc. In response, move the SCM headers into mach-omap2/. As part of this, remove the direct SCM access from the OMAP UDC driver. It was clearly broken. The UDC code needs an indepth review for use on OMAP2+ chips. omap1: omap_udc: Add clocking and disable vbus sense for omap7xx The l3_ocpi_ck clock is needed on omap7xx processors for USB. Additionally, bit 8 of the SOFT_REQ_REG needs to be enabled for the usb_dc_ck on omap7xx, which is a different bit than that of the omap16xx-defined clock of the same name. I added a provision for the usb_dc_ck and l3_ocpi_ck clocks as dc_clk and hhc_clk, respectively, for omap7xx CPUs. Additionally, I added a check in machine_without_vbus_sense for all omap7xx devices, as presently I know of no omap7xx-based devices that have vbus sense, and it made more sense to me to use a cpu check here than to spell out each machine one at a time. Finally, DMA is disabled for omap7xx, as it causes problems with these chips. USB: device DMA support on OMAP2 The current omap udc dosen't support the DMA mode and it has some problem at setup time on OMAP2 with previous patch file. I found that the code assumes bulk out required the big data transfer. But MODE SELECT(6) sent the only 24 bytes. it makes a problem. So I implement the small packets handling for it. It is tested with both linux and windows. USB: gadget: gadget_is_{dualspeed,otg} predicates and cleanup This adds two small inlines to the gadget stack, which will often evaluate to compile-time constants. That can help shrink object code and remove #ifdeffery. - gadget_is_dualspeed(), currently always a compile-time constant (depending on which controller is selected). - gadget_is_otg(), usually a compile time "false", but this is a runtime test if the platform enables OTG (since it's reasonable to populate boards with different USB sockets). It also updates two peripheral controller drivers to use these: - fsl_usb2_udc, mostly OTG-related bugfixes: non-OTG devices must follow the rules about drawing VBUS power, and OTG ones need to reject invalid SET_FEATURE requests. - omap_udc, just scrubbing a bit of #ifdeffery. And also gadgetfs, which lost some #ifdefs and moved to a more standard handling of DEBUG and VERBOSE_DEBUG. The main benefits come from patches which will follow. usb gadget stack: remove usb_ep_*_buffer(), part 2 This patch removes controller driver infrastructure which supported the now-removed usb_ep_{alloc,free}_buffer() calls. As can be seen, many of the implementations of this were broken to various degrees. Many didn't properly return dma-coherent mappings; those which did so were necessarily ugly because of bogosity in the underlying dma_free_coherent() calls ... which on many platforms can't be called from the same contexts (notably in_irq) from which their dma_alloc_coherent() sibling can be called. The main potential downside of removing this is that gadget drivers wouldn't have specific knowledge that the controller drivers have: endpoints that aren't dma-capable don't need any dma mappings at all. USB: usb gadgets avoid le{16,32}_to_cpup() It turns out that le16_to_cpup() and le32_to_cpup() aren't always safe to call with pointers into packed structures, since those are inlined functions and GCC may lose the "packed" attribute. So those references can become unaligned kernel accesses, which are evil on some hardware. This patch updates uses of those routines in the gadget stack. The references into packed structures can just use leXX_to_cpu(*x), which in most cases is more natural. Some other uses in RNDIS, mostly in debug code, were wrong in the first place; those use get_unaligned(). USB: omap_udc: workaround dma_free_coherent() bogosity Various fixes to omap_udc, noted with some recent testing: - Cope with some SMP-induced braindamage in ARM's dma_{alloc,free}_coherent() implementation: alloc() can be called with IRQs blocked, but since late last year that's no longer true for free(). This resolves really NASTY problems with logspamming via WARN_ON(), indicating N-page leaks. - Be more correct in handling GET_STATUS request for RECIP_ENDPOINT ... the previous code only handled RECIP_INTERFACE, this version should be correct except for (sigh) bulk/interrupt endpoints. - Provide a better name for the function reporting whether the board has vbus sensing wired up. GET_STATUS requests for endpoint status still acts strangely though, at least given one flakey host doesn't always ack the first DATA packet, then the packet that gets retransmitted doesn't have data! [PATCH] remove many unneeded #includes of sched.h After Al Viro (finally) succeeded in removing the sched.h #include in module.h recently, it makes sense again to remove other superfluous sched.h includes. There are quite a lot of files which include it but don't actually need anything defined in there. Presumably these includes were once needed for macros that used to live in sched.h, but moved to other header files in the course of cleaning it up. To ease the pain, this time I did not fiddle with any header files and only removed #includes from .c-files, which tend to cause less trouble. Compile tested against 2.6.20-rc2 and 2.6.20-rc2-mm2 (with offsets) on alpha, arm, i386, ia64, mips, powerpc, and x86_64 with allnoconfig, defconfig, allmodconfig, and allyesconfig as well as a few randconfigs on x86_64 and all configs in arch/arm/configs on arm. I also checked that no new warnings were introduced by the patch (actually, some warnings are removed that were emitted by unnecessarily included header files). USB: gadget driver unbind() is optional; section fixes; misc Allow gadget drivers to omit the unbind() method. When they're statically linked, that's an appropriate memory saving tweak. Similarly, provide consistent/simpler handling for a should-not-happen error case: removing a peripheral controller driver when a gadget driver is still loaded. Such code dates back to early versions of the first implementation of the gadget API, and has never been triggered. Includes relevant section annotation fixs for gmidi.c, file_storage.c, and serial.c; we don't yet have an "init or exit" annotation. IRQ: Maintain regs pointer globally rather than passing to IRQ handlers Maintain a per-CPU global "struct pt_regs *" variable which can be used instead of passing regs around manually through all ~1800 interrupt handlers in the Linux kernel. The regs pointer is used in few places, but it potentially costs both stack space and code to pass it around. On the FRV arch, removing the regs parameter from all the genirq function results in a 20% speed up of the IRQ exit path (ie: from leaving timer_interrupt() to leaving do_IRQ()). Where appropriate, an arch may override the generic storage facility and do something different with the variable. On FRV, for instance, the address is maintained in GR28 at all times inside the kernel as part of general exception handling. Having looked over the code, it appears that the parameter may be handed down through up to twenty or so layers of functions. Consider a USB character device attached to a USB hub, attached to a USB controller that posts its interrupts through a cascaded auxiliary interrupt controller. A character device driver may want to pass regs to the sysrq handler through the input layer which adds another few layers of parameter passing. I've build this code with allyesconfig for x86_64 and i386. I've runtested the main part of the code on FRV and i386, though I can't test most of the drivers. I've also done partial conversion for powerpc and MIPS - these at least compile with minimal configurations. This will affect all archs. Mostly the changes should be relatively easy. Take do_IRQ(), store the regs pointer at the beginning, saving the old one: struct pt_regs *old_regs = set_irq_regs(regs); And put the old one back at the end: set_irq_regs(old_regs); Don't pass regs through to generic_handle_irq() or __do_IRQ(). In timer_interrupt(), this sort of change will be necessary: - update_process_times(user_mode(regs)); - profile_tick(CPU_PROFILING, regs); + update_process_times(user_mode(get_irq_regs())); + profile_tick(CPU_PROFILING); I'd like to move update_process_times()'s use of get_irq_regs() into itself, except that i386, alone of the archs, uses something other than user_mode(). Some notes on the interrupt handling in the drivers: (*) input_dev() is now gone entirely. The regs pointer is no longer stored in the input_dev struct. (*) finish_unlinks() in drivers/usb/host/ohci-q.c needs checking. It does something different depending on whether it's been supplied with a regs pointer or not. (*) Various IRQ handler function pointers have been moved to type irq_handler_t. [PATCH] USB: kzalloc() conversion in drivers/usb/gadget this patch converts drivers/usb to kzalloc usage. Compile tested with allyes config. I think there was a bug in drivers/usb/gadget/inode.c because it used sizeof(*data) for the kmalloc() and sizeof(data) for the memset(), since sizeof(data) just returns the size for a pointer. [PATCH] add usb transceiver set_suspend() method When a USB device is put into suspend mode, the current drawn from VBUS has to be less than 500 uA. Some transceivers need to be put into a special power-saving mode to accomplish this, and won't have a separate OTG driver handling that. This adds a suspend method to the "otg_transceiver" struct -- misnamed, it's not only for OTG -- and calls it from the OMAP UDC driver. [PATCH] omap_udc dma off-by-one fix The change to make DMA work two bytes at a time omitted an important tweak that affects the file_storage gadget: it needs to recognize when the host writes an odd number of bytes. (The network layer ignores such extra bytes.) This patch resolves that issue by checking the relevant bit and adjusting the rx byte count, so that for example a legal 13 byte request doesn't morph into an illegal 14 byte one any more. [PATCH] DRIVER MODEL: Get rid of the obsolete tri-level suspend/resume callbacks In PM v1, all devices were called at SUSPEND_DISABLE level. Then all devices were called at SUSPEND_SAVE_STATE level, and finally SUSPEND_POWER_DOWN level. However, with PM v2, to maintain compatibility for platform devices, I arranged for the PM v2 suspend/resume callbacks to call the old PM v1 suspend/resume callbacks three times with each level in order so that existing drivers continued to work. Since this is obsolete infrastructure which is no longer necessary, we can remove it. Here's an (untested) patch to do exactly that. [PATCH] USB: more omap_udc updates (dma and omap1710) More omap_udc updates: * OMAP 1710 updates - new UDC bit for clearing endpoint toggle, affecting CLEAR_HALT - new OTG bits affecting wakeup * Fix the bug Vladimir noted, that IN-DMA transfer code path kicks in for under 1024 bytes (not "up to 1024 bytes") * Handle transceiver setup more intelligently - use transceiver whenever one's available; this can be handy for GPIO based, loopback, or transceiverless configs - cleanup correctly after the "unrecognized HMC" case * DMA performance tweaks - allow burst/pack for memory access - use 16 bit DMA access most of the time on TIPB * Add workarounds for some DMA errata (not observed "in the wild"): - DMA CSAC/CDAC reads returning zero - RX/TX DMA config registers bit 12 always reads as zero (TI patch) * More "sparse" warnings removed, notably "changing" the SETUP packet to return data in USB byteorder (an API change, null effect on OMAP except for these warnings). [PATCH] USB: omap_udc updates (mostly cleanups) Various USB patches, mostly for portability: - Fifo mode 1 didn't work previously (oopsed), so now it's fixed and (why not) defines even more endpoints for composite devices. - OMAP 1710 doesn't have an internal transceiver. - Small PM update: if the USB link is suspended, don't disconnect on entry to deep sleep. - Be more correct about handling zero length control reads. OMAP seems to mis-handle that protocol peculiarity though; best avoided. - Platform device resources (for UDC and OTG controllers) now use physical addresses, so /proc/iomem is more consistent. - Minor cleanups, notably (by volume) for "sparse" NULL warnings. Linux-2.6.12-rc2 Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
